On 21 December 2020, the new Climate Parliament Group in Algeria held its inaugural meeting. This is a multi-partisan, gender-diverse group of legislators with a specific interest in climate change and renewable energy. The first meeting was an opportunity for representatives to engage on pressing climate and renewable issues in Algeria. This was a blended physical and virtual meeting, with some parliamentarians taking part via videoconference. In the meeting, the legislators formalised the group in order to have a bureau in the Algerian parliament. They also created sub-groups on specific themes, including large-scale renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable transport. The parliamentarians will engage with experts within their country in order to bolster their knowledge of renewable issues.
