Parliamentary Roundtable on South Asia Regional Cooperation on Energy

Climate Parliament India recently hosted a Parliamentary Roundtable on South Asia Regional Cooperation on Energy. The meeting was hosted in partnership with IRADE as part of USAID’s South Asia Regional Initiative/Energy Integration programme. At the meeting, a white paper titled Regional Parliamentary Forum for Energy Cooperation and Energy Trade in South Asia was also launched. The Roundtable was attended by MPs from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The MPs discussed that mitigating political challenges was imperative for achieving successful energy trading and cooperation in the region and expressed support for a Regional Parliamentary Forum for encouraging political dialogue on South Asian energy cooperation and trade. The MPs also highlighted the importance of the proposed cooperation for accelerating the transition to clean energy in the region.
